Don't worry be happy
It's Friday, so have a listen to Bobby Mc Ferrin and feel the beat! Scroll down to right hand side of the page and you will find him there with the great Bob Marley classic. Have a great weekend and talk again Monday..

Give someone you appreciate a bunch of flowers
In the midst of a difficult day, think of someone you appreciate, and give them a bunch of flowers, a card or some other token to express your thanks. It's amazing how this will make you feel better. You will have the joy of giving another person joy. In the process you will also remember, that though you are having a difficult day, that there are still some good things in your life!

What to do when you find what makes you miserable!
Well first, take a deep breath. Next know that help is at hand. A wise person whose name I cannot remember came up with a formula. (Don't you just love those?)
DO IT!
DELAY IT!
DELEGATE IT!
or
DUMP IT!
So the key is MAKE A DECISION! Is it something you must do, even though you don't like it? Going to the dentist is an obvious one.
Is it something that can wait, like doing your tax returns? (As long as it is not year end.)
Is it something you can delegate? (Get a local kid to mow the lawn so you don't have to!)
or
Is it something that you no-longer want to do that adds nothing to the quality of your life?
A kind of mental spring cleaning! Good Luck!

Enjoyment is not the same as gratitude
For many years we have been encouraged to cultivate an attitude of gratitude. This is indeed a wonderful thing.
However, in the "happy" book what I am encouraging readers to do, is to look for those things they really ENJOY doing. There are many things we can be grateful for in our lives but some of them may have been painful lessons. In order to live happy lives, we need to know what we ENJOY doing and do LOTS of it!
So, today, begin your list. Write down the big things you ENJOY and the little things. Taking your dog for a walk, catching up with workmates after the weekend, lunch with a friend, exercising, pretty flowers in a shop window or in your garden...Throughout the coming days, every time you realise you are enjoying something make a quick note. You will be surprised how many things you find! You will be surprised how much you enjoy the process. Give yourself the gift of happiness and come and tell us about your happy moments!

Values and happiness
When you take the time to do Day 5 which is all about your values, (and also the longest exercise), you get so much information about yourself. When you know what matters to you and why, you know what drives every action in your life.
Any goal you set yourself which is in conflict with your values will fail. You will always be fighting with yourself and your goal will be the loser. However when your goals are in keeping with your values then you can only succeed. So give yourself the gift of knowing what matters to you and why. It may take awhile.... but you will get there!

These Three Things I Enjoyed Today
These Three Things I Enjoyed Today...
As in the Ronseal ad, 'It does exactly what it says on the tin'!
When you think about the things you enjoyed doing during the day, even if it was as simple as just sending an email to a friend or making your favourite breakfast.
Write it down!
You have just taken the first step to learning the 'Happy Habit'!
Congrats!
Wasn't it easier than you thought?

How to keep following the days!
Some of you have said that you find it hard to keep following the days. Here are some suggestions that might help.....
Pick a specific time every day, first thing in the morning, last thing at night, on the bus/train to work
Follow the days with a friend, share what you are learning and get twice the benefit
Take the book to your book club
If you are tired just think about the three things you really ENJOYED today
Pick a day at random, some are shorter/quicker to do than others
If a question is hard to answer leave it and come back another day
If you miss a day, don't give yourself a hard time, otherwise the book becomes just another chore and this defeats the whole purpose
I hope these help.
The 3 things I enjoyed most today were
Finding out that there was a discussion about the "happy" book on http://www.irishbusinesswomen.com
having a leisurely breakfast by myself
getting some great ideas from Aidan Murray at 360solutions
